It is continuous process that goes on uninterruptedly involving phenomena, big and small, material and non-material that make over physical and socio-cultural environment. It is a process present everywhere with variations in terms of magnitude, intensity and scale.
The assessment of human failures is implicit in that process. Where it needs to be made more explicit is where the hazard warrants it i.e. where there is a major hazard or significant occupational.
An environmental hazard is a type of hazard resulting from chemical, biological, or physical agents either from ongoing or previous human activity, or the hazard may be a property present in the natural environment. This type of hazard poses a risk to either human health or to the natural environment.
